This example was manufactured by Spreewerke factory between 1943 -1945, as shown with the 'cyq' stamping. The Walther P38 was in production from 1939 to 1945. It was intended to replace the costly Luger P08, the production of which was scheduled to end in 1942. The Walther P38 (originally written Walther P.38) is a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol that was developed by Carl Walther GmbH as the service pistol of the Wehrmacht at the beginning of World War II. Having said that, this would probably be best kept as a collectable, which will continue to increase in value, as they become increasingly scarce, and difficult to find good examples in Australia particularly.
